The Race Across Italy (RAI) is a premier non-stop ultracycling event that challenges participants with diverse routes across Italy’s scenic landscapes. Starting from Silvi in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo, the 2025 edition offers three distinct races to accommodate varying levels of endurance and adventure:
RAI300
- Date: May 3, 2025
- Distance: 330 km
- Elevation Gain: 4,600 meters
- Time Limit: 18 hours (with support); 20 hours (unsupported)
- Description: Serving as an introduction to ultracycling, the RAI300 offers a challenging yet accessible route, making it an ideal entry point for those new to the discipline.
RAI775
- Date: May 2, 2025
- Distance: 775 km
- Elevation Gain: 10,500 meters
- Time Limit: 45 hours (with support); 65 hours (unsupported)
- Description: Known as Italy’s first ultracycling event, the RAI775 is a double coast-to-coast journey that traverses four regions, crossing the Apennines twice and touching both the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic seas. Participants will experience unspoiled nature through some of Italy’s most beautiful national parks. This race is a qualifying event for the Race Across America (RAAM) and is included in the World Ultracycling Association calendar for the 500 Mile Series Challenge.
RAI Unlimited
- Date: May 1, 2025
- Distance: Approximately 1,800 km
- Elevation Gain: Approximately 18,000 meters
- Time Limit: 10 days
- Description: Designed for the most adventurous cyclists, the RAI Unlimited offers a pure unsupported experience in a transcontinental style. The route includes mandatory checkpoints, providing participants with the freedom to choose their path between these points, enhancing the adventure and navigation challenges.
